Clovis Hung, a 12-year-old from the US, is set to graduate from college with a whopping five degrees under his tiny belt, and if it makes you feel a little stupid, join the club.
The little genius who would have been in grade 5 or 6 now, became bored with school when grade 2 just wasn’t hard enough for him, and along with his parents, began looking at other options that would keep him interested.
Initially, his mother homeschooled him for a while, and after showing ‘remarkable progress’, the boy was enrolled at Fullerton College in the US.
‘’My husband and two daughters said I was crazy. But I trust my instinct. I know he is a very unique child because he’s very curious and intelligent.’’
Hung is expected to graduate with the 2023 class, becoming the college’s youngest graduate in the institution’s 108-year history.
Hung will graduate with an associate of arts degree in history, social sciences, social behaviour and self-development, arts and human expression along with science and maths.
‘’My favourite subject is history because I love travelling. I have been to 23 countries, and my favourite is Egypt because I could see the Great Pyramid of Giza and climb in … I feel really proud of myself for all three years of hard work.’’
Despite his incredible intellect, the boy still enjoys the same simple pleasures as his peers, such as basketball and playing video games.
One of his professors said ‘’Clovis has been a great mixture of kid and college student. He is mature enough that the other students take him seriously, but enough of a kid that they look after him like a younger brother and cheer him on.’’
The child prodigy plans to enter the aerospace sector and wants to become a pilot one day. Judging by how he managed to get five degrees by the time most boys get hair on their chests, this kid can most likely become anything he sets his mind to.
Watch out Elon, I think the world has a new ‘genius child’.
