It’s not exactly news that Ben Affleck sometimes presents himself as a sad sack of affairs.
The actor’s resting sad face at the Grammys, on the beach, and smoking a cigarette, have all become memes of their own. Headlines and entire op-eds have been dedicated to The Great Sadness Of Ben Affleck.
So the fact that Twitter is in a total tizzy over a viral video of the Sad Dad slamming a car door furiously as his wife Jennifer Lopez gets comfy in her seat is really just another day in the life of Ben.
Doing the rounds on Twitter and TikTok, the three million views-strong clip shows Mr and Mrs Affleck approaching their parked car, to-go coffees in hand, with Ben looking incredibly fed up and carrying a disproportionate level of oomph. At the end of the clip, Ben looks at the camera rather irritatedly as if confronting the filmer.

Over the original TikTok video, a creator wrote, “Ben Affleck shows chivalry isn’t dead,” while another observer wrote “Chivalry isn’t dead, but it looks like happiness is,” with another remarking that “Ben looks like he’s carrying all the world’s problems on his back”.
BuzzFeed reports that the video has sparked a bit of a debate, with some tweeps wondering if he was taking it out on the paparazzi while many more were speculating that perhaps he and J.Lo had been arguing at the time.
“LMAOOOOO nah Ben tired of her shit,” one person tweeted, echoed by someone else who described him as “literally the unhappiest, most pressed husband in Hollywood.”
“the way he closed the door i know she driving him insane,” wrote someone else. “lmfaoo Ben look like he hasn’t had peace in a while.”
But in all honesty, it looks like Ben’s frustrations at the moment were aimed at the person filming them, not his wife:
“I think y’all reaching I think he’s tired of the paparazzi hence the ‘what the fuck bro’ posture,” wrote another.
“he literally just doesn’t like paparazzis lol,” someone else added. “Look at how he shakes his head too. He’s like that every time a camera’s on him.”
Since Bennifer got back together in 2021, people have enjoyed thinking that their relationship is rocky, with ‘fans’ theorising on numerous occasions that the pair had been caught fighting in public:
I think it’s so weird and sorta pathetic that some of you want this man to hate his wife so much. He is clearly annoyed with the paparazzi, not her. Some of you are so used to being unloved by the person you love and it shows. https://t.co/CArDaT0FNS

Ben actually spoke about his gloomy demeanour on the Bill Simmons Podcast, saying that it’s all a big misconception:
“One of the reasons why people always think I look sad or pissed off is because the pictures that you see — it’s self-selecting,” he said. “You only see me at the times where I’m standing there with my kids and five guys are following me and shouting things, which brings a feeling out in you that is not a happy feeling.”
There you go. Debate over.
Bennifer are happy but Ben is not.
