Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation left us all on a cliffhanger, waiting for a sequel…
At first, it was thought that the Blade Runner 2049 director was adapting all of Frank Herbert’s legendary 1965 novel into one movie, but they are officially being split up, with the trailer for Part Two just released.
The first part introduced us to Arrakis and its perils, setting up Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides’ hero journey and leaving him and his mother Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) with the Fremen.
The trailer for Dune: Part Two shows how Paul and Jessica have adapted to become more Fremen, building to a key moment from the book: Paul riding a giant sandworm.
The film’s official synopsis states:
Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
While Zendaya is still very much present, we also meet a number of new characters, including Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan and Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the Baron’s nephew. Legendary actor Christopher Walken will also make an appearance as Emperor Shaddam IV.
The Dune 2 release date is set for November 3.
