This weekend is going to be miserable. Although, it could improve significantly if you have a seductive red nearby.
Not much compares to a delicious glass of red wine while the rain pours and the wind howls.
With all these cold fronts moving in swiftly, one has to prepare – say, collect their winter nuts. We’ve been busy with the winter prep, shopping at Anthonij Rupert Wyne – our favourite wine farm in the Franschhoek mountains, known for its terroir-specific wine range made from a number of lush sites.
The vineyards chosen for the Anthonij Rupert wine range are all carefully selected from very specific locations and soil types. Each block’s canopy and final yield are precisely managed to express the character of the specific varietal and its location. Basically – yum, more, please.
While you could swap out your Netflix and chill sesh for a trip to see the sprawling estate – complete with the Franschhoek Motor Museum, where you can discover a fascinating collection of vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, and memorabilia – and sip on some wine at the Terra del Capo tasting venue, you could also just order some good red wine online and have it delivered.

It seems more appropriate to give your full attention to the Anthonij Rupert Optima 2019 in the comfort of your own home since it is lauded as being instantly seductive with hints of violet, blackberry, cherry, cocoa, spice and fruitcake perfume.
You’ll really want to cosy up with those same ripe and rich flavours found in the mouth; soft, rounded, plush and embracing.

It is not often you find a winter companion that is as supple, textured and elegant, we’ll have you know.
If the Optima doesn’t make sparks fly, then try out the Anthonij Rupert Cab Franc, which is part of its flagship range of collectable Cape Red wines crafted from premium grapes grown on the ideal sites of Franschhoek.

The nose is complex on this one, with a typical herbaceous undertone, spicy notes, cocoa powder, and dark fruitcake notes. On the mouth, the same rich dark chocolate, fruitcake, and cedar flavours, as well as tomato plant flavours, are present.
Pair a glass of this Cab Franc with a delicious home-cooked meal, and you have yourself a winning date.
Okay, I better stop personifying the bejesus out of these delicious red wines before someone loses touch with reality.
Go visit Anthonij Rupert Wyne online or in person to find your perfect red companion for this incoming winter.
Happy snuggling!
