Greta Gerwig’s new movie is pink and fantastic.
We couldn’t be more excited to see Warner Bros.’ Barbie, with the famous figurines finally brought to life in two new teaser trailers.
Leading the star-studded cast that includes a muscular Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s boy toy, Ken, is Oscar nominee Margot Robbie as Barbie, dah.
But the two actors are not the only Barbie and Ken dolls in the film.
A plethora of actors has been cast as different iterations of the famous dolls, including Dua Lipa as mermaid Barbie and Simu Liu as another Ken, among others.

The first Barbie teaser trailer is a nod to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, notes Variety, as it officially introduces the world to Robbie’s Barbie. It’s a bit odd but I stan:
The storyline is something like how Barbie and Ken are placed in the real world and forced to wrestle with the difficulties of no longer being just dolls.
The second trailer teases this out a bit more:
Barbie was co-written by the director Gerwig and her husband, filmmaker Noah Baumbach:
Gerwig indicated she was a little apprehensive and slightly terrified when taking on the highly-anticipated project, saying, “That feeling that I had was knowing that it would be really interesting terror. Usually that’s where the best stuff is. I am terrified of that. Anything where you’re like, ‘This could be a career-ender,’ then you’re like, ‘OK, I probably should do it.’”
Besides Gosling and Liu as Ken, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Scott Evans also play variations on Ken, while the likes of Lipa, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, and more star as various Barbies.
Gerwig has enlisted an all-round A-list ensemble to star alongside and as all these Barbies and Kens, including Will Ferrell as the Mattel CEO, Connor Swindells, Nicola Coughlan, Emerald Fennell, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Rhea Perlman, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, and Jamie Demetriou, among others.
Barbie will make its full appearance in theatres on July 21.
