Yup, it’s your weekly facepalm time again. Why?
Elon Musk and his eccentric baby-mommy Grimes, a.k.a Claire Boucher (Boo-Shay) have made the news again with another upgrade of their child’s name.
Previously known by the unpronounceable X Æ A-12, the poor kid will now be known simply as “Y” or “Why” or just “?”.
Grimes explained the change to their daughter’s name was because California law prohibits names that include numbers or symbols. Obviously, Elon’s first reaction must have been “why”, and so the name stuck. Probably not, but you never know with these two.
The couple welcomed their first child together last year and soon afterwards sparked debate when they revealed the poor/rich kid’s name as X Æ A-12. Grimes revealed that X Æ A-12 was pronounced “X Ash A Twelve” with “Ash” representing a character from the Elvish language of “Lord of the Rings” and “A-12” representing the precursor to the couple’s favourite aircraft, the SR-71.
Saving the family the trouble of having to explain the name every time the girl meets someone new, Grimes revealed that they didn’t want to simply change her name to a ‘traditional’ one, so they changed it to “Why”, or “Y”, or just “?”.
Grimes is quoted as saying that the name represents the unknown, which she finds ‘fitting for her daughter’s personality’. Seeing as she is only a year old, I suppose we can be glad they didn’t change it to the poop emoji (also entirely fitting for a toddler’s personality).
Anyways, the tech god and his muse obviously gave this a lot of thought, so who are we to judge the choices they make for ?/Why/Y.
Simon Sinek must be elated as he is always ranting about finding ‘the why’. But that still leaves Who, What, and Where. Considering how virile Musk’s hair-regrowth treatment made him (why not?), we suggest you watch this space.
