In the beginning of the month, Apple released a ‘new’ iPhone 14.
Technically, there’s nothing new about it – it’s exactly the same in every way as the iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Plus models Apple introduced in September.
Except, in this case, for the colour: a gorgeous new canary yellow.
“It’s also a brilliant lesson for every small business owner about how to create anticipation and delight your customers even when you don’t have something new to sell,” writes Inc.Africa.
Indeed, it’s a stroke of genius on the tech company’s part as all they had to do was order some bright-coloured paint, put it on the existing model and sell a few million of them – in essence.
For a company that releases new iPhones on a religious annual schedule, dropping something it can call ‘new’ in the middle of the cycle is really bold:
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are now available in Yellow!

The bottom line is that people can’t stop talking and writing about this “brand new iPhone”:
Although there are those who might warn “you should rather wait for the new iPhone 15 coming in six months”, this new yellow iPhone is not really for the people who upgrade their devices according to the regular schedule.
In fact, most people don’t upgrade so regularly and therefore, this yellow addition might be just the thing to make them excited to do so.
Apple introduces a new iPhone that isn’t new at all except for its new color, but gets to keep using the word “new”. Apple knows people don’t pay attention to six-month-old iPhone models the same way they pay attention to the word new.
While there might be criticism that Apple is just blatantly grabbing headlines and gassing people up mid-cycle, that is precisely the point – a smart move to drive sales.
If you’ve got Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’ living rent-free in your head, and need a yellow iPhone to suit the soundtrack of your brain, then let South Africa’s largest independent Apple retailer, Digicape, extend a helping hand.
You don’t want to land up fogging your old device on Facebook Marketplace, where someone might try to shny out of paying the asking price, another will try to con you, while someone’s grandmother may start messaging you like you’re their grandchild.
Rather, opt for Digicape’s trade-in option. The idea is to trade in your preloved devices at Digicape and use the value towards your next purchase.
The trade-in values of selected iPhones make it quite affordable to upgrade:
The yellow iPhone 14 (128GB) is selling for R19 999 while the iPhone 14 Plus goes for R23 999, so you can make a sizeable saving if you swap your existing iPhone for a new one, financing just the difference.
To get a more accurate quote fill in the form over at Digicape and they will get in touch so that you can feel those mellow yellow vibes.
