Talk about the snub of the century.
For a long time, Kim Kardashian has been one of Met Gala’s biggest red carpet characters.
While Kim was the first Kardashian to appear at the Met Gala, all of her sisters were in attendance last year, including Khloé, who finally lost her Met virginity.
Their Met Gala outfits have always driven some of the biggest headlines from fashion’s big night, so you would think they would be on the guest list to stay.
But it turns out, Vogue Editor-in-Chief and curator of The Met Museum’s Costume Center Anna Wintour is “cracking down” on who makes the cut this year, very much keen to exclude the Kardashian clan, apparently.
Cosmopolitan reckons there’s some confusion around this though:
According to one source who spoke to the outlet, “no Kardashians” will be invited. However, another source disputed this and said that’s “not true.”
In the past, there has been speculation about the Kardashians (specifically Khloé) being “banned” from the Met Gala at various times. Khloé herself shut that rumour down:
Khloé also revealed that she’d turned down past invites during Hulu’s The Kardashians, saying, “I have been invited in the past. I just opted not to go. I’m not big on red carpets. I think I’ve made that very clear.” She added that Kim ended up convincing her to go last year, explaining, “Good old Kimberly has a way with words. And I am also sort of a pushover with some things, and I guess I allowed her to push me over.”
Meanwhile, Kim made her Met Gala debut in 2013, although the experience was pretty stressful for her:
Year 1- 2013 Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy. I was Kanye’s plus one & so nervous! I didn’t know anyone & I’m sure no one wanted me there lol. I did my own lipstick & the color is so off. I went home & cried after of insecurity but this is one of my fave looks now. pic.twitter.com/M1so9DVEn4

While everyone is unsure if the Kardashians will pitch up this year, Wintour has had a contentious relationship with the Kardashians for a long time, notes High Snobiety:
The Kardashian family was long banned from even appearing in Vogue, for instance. However, Kim and Kanye eventually appeared on the cover of the April 2014 edition of Vogue, shortly after their Met Gala debut.
