Except for one show that is more satirical than funny, we’re taking a look at some of the most exciting new comedy TV projects coming out this month.
Don’t worry, we’re circumventing Ted Lasso season three and the sequel to Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery to get to the good stuff.
From a “history of the world” that’s been four decades in the making to more Bob Odenkirk, more musical theatre, and a mysterious machine that reveals your true potential, this month’s comedy offerings look promising.
Off we go, courtesy of The Daily Beast.
First up, we have Mel Brooks’ 1981 screwball comedy film, History of the World: Part II, which is taking a deeper dive into – let’s say it together now – the history of the world.
The Hulu show, which has been 40 years in the making, will air over four nights with a total of eight episodes, starring a handful of well-known celebs like Seth Rogen, Johnny Knoxville, Taika Waititi, Emily Ratajkowski, and Tyler James Williams.
The History of the World: Part II is out on March 6 on Hulu:
Then, in Swarm, Dre (Dominique Fishback) is “a young woman whose obsession with a pop star takes a dark turn”.
With co-creator Donald Glover (Atlanta) working alongside playwright Janine Nabors, the show will be biting, bringing a “satirical, surreal, shocking take on what happens when fandom goes too far”.
Swarm will be on Prime Video on March 17:
After loosening Saul Goodman’s tie for the last time one year ago, Bob Odenkirk is back on TV in AMC’s Lucky Hank.
This time he’s living in another hellhole: a liberal arts college.
Lucky Hank will be on AMC on March 19:
Offering yet another La La Land-esque take on 1999 New York, Up Here follows Lindsay (Mae Whitman) and Miguel (Carlos Valdes), as they fall in love despite the voices in their heads.
Up Here will be on Hulu on March 24:
Then, there’s a series starring Chris O’Dowd about a mysterious machine that appears in a small town’s local grocery store, purportedly able to reveal the true potential and destiny of all who approach it.
The Big Door Prize will be available on Apple TV+ on March 29:
Last but not least is this Sundance special whose two lead stars’ (Vivian Oparah and Industry’s David Jonsson) won the acclaim of critics.
The romantic comedy tells the story of an unexpected duo meeting in a gallery and going on to gossip about the struggles of their personal lives.
Rye Lane will be on Hulu from March 31:
Okay fine, Ted Lasso season three will be out on March 15 on Apple TV+.
But remember that you can always do so much better.
