Just after the former Springbok rugby captain Jean de Villiers apprehended a suspect, chasing him down at a Paarl mall (in plakkies, nogal) after seeing him steal, another local rugby player was also spotted saving the day.

Cheetahs prop Schalk Ferreira brilliantly dealt with a seemingly intoxicated man dancing on the hood of a woman’s car in Bloemfontein, dragging the man off before things escalated.

Footage of the incident posted by local Afrikaans radio station OFM went viral this week, showing a man stomping on a car hood in peak traffic at around seven in the morning, with the occupants of the car getting increasingly frightened.

Thankfully, Ferreira was there taking his daughter to school and decided to step in.

Planet Rugby reports that Ferreira first asked the man to get off the bonnet before warning him of the consequences if he didn’t, promptly grabbing the man by his leg and flinging him to the ground:

The Cheetahs prop recounted what happened on OFM Radio:

“I just watched him, and when he got on the car and started kicking, I read the family’s body language and saw the boy started crying,” Ferreria told OFM.

“Then I decided to get out of my car and do something. At quarter past seven in the morning, you don’t expect this at all – for an intoxicated person to start banging on people’s car windows and to suddenly start jumping on this poor woman’s car.”

“At least everything worked out well,” concluded one of the longest-serving players in South African rugby, adding that “you’ll do anything to defend family”.
