Local rap artist Kiernan Forbes, widely known as AKA, and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane were gunned down on Florida Road in Durban over the weekend.
The brazen murder has shocked the nation, with many wondering what it means that a person can be shot at so easily in public.
There have also been speculations about who may have ordered what appears to have been a hit on the slain musician.
Moses Tembe, the father of Anele Tembe (both pictured above), who was engaged to AKA when she fell to her death from the tenth floor of Cape Town’s Pepperclub Hotel in April 2021, is the main suspect being thrown around on social media, per The Citizen:
“It is clear that in KZN, family, relatives and friends were still angry about the death of Anele Tembe… It is clear that others were waiting for AKA to show up and pay revenge. AKA came to Durban and he was shot dead,” tweeted Mluh Bhengu.
“In 2021, AKA’s girl Nellie Tembe fell from a hotel in Cape Town and died. Hotel staff claimed they heard arguments from their room but AKA claimed she jumped. Police dismissed the case. She is a Durban native from a wealthy home. AKA visited Durban and posted his location on IG (Instagram),” tweeted Scoobynero.
When Anele died on that tragic day, AKA was present at the time and hotel staff recall there being disturbances in their room:
AKA told [broadcast journalist Thembekile] Mrototo that Anele threatened to kill herself by jumping over the balcony.
“We had been having a particularly difficult week in our relationship, lots of arguments and disagreements.
“We sat down and we spoke and we started disagreeing again and things got heated,” he said at the time.He said that while he called the hotel reception for security and while the events were blurry, he remembered walking out of the bathroom and not seeing her anywhere in the room. He added that he then walked to the balcony and saw her body on the street below.
The National Prosecution Authority said that Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, advocate Nicolette Bell, decided not to prosecute anyone for Anele’s death based on extensive investigations which were conducted by the SAPS and prosecutors, who produced expert opinions and forensic reports, IOL reported.
But Anele’s father vehemently denied that Anele had died by suicide:

The Tembe family are set to make representations regarding the DPP’s decision to the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).
Meanwhile, Moses released a statement in the wake of the news that AKA had been brutally murdered, extending his family’s “deepest condolences to the Forbes family on the passing of their beloved son”:
Moses also told the Daily Sun that “we’re so saddened by this sad eventuality [AKA’s death] as it robs us of the opportunity we have been waiting for so patiently to vindicate our daughter in court or in an inquest.”
The Tembe family have preferred to not comment any further, deciding to not focus on the NPA press release right now and rather “respect the Forbes family’s wishes” for privacy during this difficult time.
Indeed, the Forbes family are having to contend with all those terrible videos showing their son’s last moments.
The Durban Police are investigating a person of interest in the murder of AKA.
