It’s On!
After a few twists and turns, Cape Town will finally play host to the 2023 Formula E-Prix on 25 February this year, and it’s revving up to be a bigger bash than the Cape Town Met, with waaay more horsepower.
The E-Prix (tickets here) will form part of the 10-day E-fest during which various events and activities are being planned to promote and showcase e-mobility. Petrol heads and eco-warriors both have good reason to be excited.
The Cape Town leg of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, an all-electric open-wheel, street circuit race, is set to be among the most iconic races on the 2023 championship calendar.
The Gen3 electrical racing cars are the furthest thing you will find from a Prius, and can reach speeds of up to 320km.
The Gen3 cars will race their way through the Green Point and Waterfront precincts, with Signal Hill and other famous Cape Town landmarks as the track backdrop. This 2.94 km, 12-turn track is predicted to be one of the fastest in the series.
The starting line will be on Vlei Road, followed by a left into Helen Suzman Boulevard and another left turn chicane into Granger Bay Boulevard. The track continues down Beach Road in Mouille Point, following the oceanfront before taking a sharp left-hander into Fritz Sonnenberg Road before finally ending with a final right turn to the checkered flag.
The Allianz Fan Villages are at the centre of the fan experience at every race, with a variety of entertainment and activities for Formula E fans of all ages.

The 10-day E-fest is being held in association with Go Green Africa and hopes to encourage and promote Africa’s transition into a ‘green economy’. Besides all the speed and excitement, there will be all manner of activities on offer to entertain and educate the public on advances in electrical vehicles.
Cape Town E-Prix promises fast, exciting open-wheel street racing on a stunning new track in the Mother City with sustainability at its centre.
Tickets are already on sale, so we suggest getting yours as soon as possible.
The 2023 Cape Town E-Prix is a fascinating glimpse into the possible future of motorsport, with electrical scooters, bicycles, cars and even airplanes becoming more common. If Eskom can be kept away from this event it is definitely going to be one of the highlights of the 2023 calendar.
