There seems to be nothing that social media doesn’t find funny, so when a video emerged of the US shooting down a Chinese surveillance balloon over its airspace, Twitter fired off a few of its own missiles, comparing the incident to the Macy’s Day parade and The Wizard of Oz.
what if when they shot that chinese spy balloon out of the sky a bunch of pink powdery smoke came out & that’s how we all found out the nation was fearmongering for days over what ended up being a loose balloon from a gender reveal party states away

The US has shot down the Chinese spy balloon but, as always, it was filled with licorice, Gummi bears and other stuff nobody wants, and not enough KitKats pic.twitter.com/GCnOHzhCrb

It’s rather funny if you can ignore the fact that the US government acknowledged they were aware of the ‘surveillance balloon’ for a number of days as it floated peacefully over the US. According to reports the US government was hesitant to shoot it down earlier in fear that the debris may cause damage to civilians and their property. Watch the video here:
Trump, of course, bellowed from the sidelines that his administration would have never allowed a Chinese spy satellite to hover over their sovereign soil, taking pictures of their golf courses and NRA rallies. The Biden administration had to also sheepishly admit that another Chinese surveillance balloon had been brought down over Hawaii a few weeks earlier.
With China and the US at each other’s necks over Taiwan, the memes appear to have a nervous giggle about them.
