Size does matter if you’re Jeff Bezos.
Whether it’s a phallic-looking rocket ship, or a superyacht to celebrate your divorce, the Amazon billionaire likes his toys big.
At 127 metres, the Koru, which means ‘new beginnings’ in Maori, is one of the biggest superyachts ever built.
The shiny new toy has been laying at the dock in Rotterdam since being moved there in August 2022 by Oceanco, the company behind the design and manufacturing of the floating palace.
Following the fitment of its three masts, the yacht will undergo sea trials later this year. The boat is the largest superyacht to have been built at Rotterdam yards and once completed, will be the longest yacht ever built in the Netherlands.
When completed, the yacht will stand taller that the pyramids of Giza.
Coming in at a cool $500 million, the purchase is beyond mere mortals, but considering the $121 billion the newly-single Bezos is left with after his divorce, it shouldn’t stress his finances too much.
Although Oceanco has remained tight-lipped about the yacht, there was a very public outcry last year when the billionaire offered to temporarily dismantle the historic Koningshaven Bridge in order for the yacht to pass.
Luckily the historic landmark eventually didn’t have to be destroyed to fit the midlife-crises-on-steroids mega yacht.
