Will Smith may have hoped that the world had forgotten his macho antics at last year’s Oscars, but comedy legend Eddie Murphy made sure to remind everyone during last night’s Golden Globes ceremony.
The Coming to America star was honoured with the Cecille B DeMille Award during the glitzy award show and used his acceptance speech to dish out some advice for up-and-coming new actors.
“It’s very simple, just do these three things: pay your taxes, mind your business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!” he eloquently advised.
Judging by the roaring applause this received, it appears that Will may have to wait a little longer before we get over his slap-happy defence of angelic Jada Pinkett-Smith.
We can almost forgive Murphy for Norbert because of last night.
Watch the hilarious acceptance speech below:
As Variety reports, Murphy is no stranger to award shows and has been nominated for six Golden Globes, winning in 2007 for his performance in Dreamgirls.
He’s also a five-time Emmy nominee, winning in 2020 for his hosting performance on Saturday Night Live. He is also a three-time Grammy nominee, taking home the award for best comedy recording in 1984.
The Cecille B DeMille Award is handed out to performers for their outstanding contribution to cinema since 1952 and was presented to Murphy by his longtime friends and co-stars, Traci Morgan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Jada and her bodyguard/husband were not present at this year’s Golden Globes awards. Perhaps Will was working on the sequel to I am Legend, entitled I am Idiot.
Eddie Murphy, however, will be starring in a host of films in the coming years following a three-picture deal with Amazon.
