Trevor Noah has often spoken about his devout, fearless, and independent mother, Patricia.
He even dedicated a whole Netflix comedy special to her, called Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia.
One of his skits talks about how he was taught to endure racism, a lesson masterfully passed down to him by his mother who had to contend with the viciousness of Apartheid while trying to raise him.
Now she has SARS coming after her, with the organisation asking her to pay back the R24 million she allegedly owes in tax debt.
Per City Press, she was issued with a final letter of demand by SARS, which threatened to obtain an execution order to sell her assets if she fails to use methods stipulated by the revenue collector to pay her debt ASAP.
The letter dated November 8, shows an outstanding tax debt of R24 219 220 in total.
It specifies that Patricia has failed to pay her tax debt for one or more tax years and tax periods, and is required to apply for any of the following remedies within 10 business days from the date of the letter of demand:
Make a “payment instalments where you are unable to pay the full amount; suspension of the debt where you intend to submit or have submitted a formal dispute; compromise of a portion of the tax where this will provide a higher return to the fiscus than liquidation, sequestration or other collection measures.”
Failure to make full payment or use the above remedies may result in the following consequences:
Sars may appoint any third party who presently or in the future will owe you money or hold money for you to settle your tax debt with this money.
A civil judgment being entered against you, in which case a warrant of execution may be issued for the Sheriff of the court to attach and sell your assets.
Eish, she better get moving.
Apparently, Patricia is in the property business under the company name PN Noah Estates and is also reportedly the director of various companies, including Dempa Investments and Isacchar Properties.
I am sure Trevor would be more than happy to send some dollars over for his mom if need be.
