Throughout this morning and even post-lunch, the sound of thunder has been booming across the Cape Town CBD.
The first crack was so loud that I thought the Noon Gun had malfunctioned and gone off far earlier than planned.
Perhaps consider bringing your pets inside if they’re not already, and I would also advise writing off any potential paragliding outings for the day.
Musician Chad Saaiman recorded this short clip earlier this morning and posted it to Twitter at 10:46AM.
As I parked in Sea Point now, really hope the people involved are okay. Landing seemed to be managed under the circumstances. Not sure about this being launched/approved with this weather? pic.twitter.com/kocwa1ArPD

I’m also a little uncertain about launching in this weather.
The thunder is still ringing out as I write this and there are also flashes of lightning.
We don’t have verified details regarding the condition of those involved in the accident but Dino Gomes says that nobody was injured:

Aside from a few bruised egos, of course.
We were also sent this image of the crash site, showing an Octotel van in the thick of things. Maybe they could hook the parachutists up with the Cape’s best high-speed fibre so they can Google the weather conditions before taking to the sky.
Write off paragliding for the day. Stay indoors. You have the perfect excuse.
