HBO’s star-studded social satire is taking us along for a Sicilian vacay with a whole new cast.
“Whenever I stay at a White Lotus, I always have a memorable time. Always,” begins Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya in the trailer for The White Lotus season two.
Coolidge is one of the only characters from the first instalment back for more, along with her new husband Greg (that bloke she met in season one at the Hawaii resort), played by the returning Jon Gries.
Their relationship seems a bit rocky in the trailer, while we also get to see hints of excessive affair-making, happiness-faking, and personality-changing on the dark side of money-making.
These are all things we’ve come to expect from the writer, director, and executive producer Mike White, who enjoys unpacking the exploits of various hotel guests and employees over the span of a week.
There’s no eerie traditional Hawaiian music this time but there is mandolin, violin, and piano that begins to sound increasingly unhinged:
Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) plays Harper Spiller, newly wealthy after her husband found professional success and dubious of their new friends.
The newly minted cast also includes F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Adam DiMarco, Beatrice Grannò, Meghann Fahy, Tom Hollander, Sabrina Impacciatore, Michael Imperioli, Theo James, Haley Lu Richardson, Will Sharpe, Simona Tabasco, and Leo Wood.
As Deadline notes, this new season is coming off the first season’s Emmy haul of 10 wins from 20 nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, the most wins of any show this year.
You also saw that hint of someone’s death in the trailer, right?
The seven-episode series will be available on HBO and HBO Max from October 30.
