When I first moved to the Cape Town CBD many moons ago, buying a home in Higgovale one day was the dream.
From time to time, I still check what it costs to get a foot in the door. The cheapest option at the moment is a R3 million two-bedroom apartment, followed by a R5 million two-bedroom house.
Both are suitably priced to keep out riff-raff like me. Job done.
I thought I may as well abandon all sense of reality and check out the upper-end of the market, with some prices north of R50 million.
My personal favourite is currently listed on Property24 for R48 million and has views suitable for such riches:
Nestled amongst tall trees on a totally private double plot stretching 2534m2 along the top road of Higgovale with only Table Mountain as your backdrop, one is dazzled by this glamorous family home with the most jaw-dropping views imaginable.
This South-entry, North facing home in a quiet cul-de-sac, is set in a beautiful, almost jungle like terraced garden, an absolute paradise for children and pets alike.
Flooded with light, the house is centred around an impressive atrium with a magnified view of Table Mountain and sweeping views across the City Bowl towards Table Bay and beyond. There are spectacular views from all of the bedrooms and from every level of this property.
A rooftop with 360-degree views (prepare for sunrise yoga sessions and drinks at sunset) and a two-bedroom “staff apartment” with a bathroom and kitchen/living area with separate access are also nice features to round off the five-bedroom home.
Four of those are on the ground floor and the fifth is on the first floor.
The best way to get a sense for the space without trespassing is the video tour:
There’s also the added bonus of being just metres away from access to the paths that criss-cross Table Mountain National Park.
Sunrise yoga, afternoon trail run, sunset drinks. Life is good.
