Last year, Heritage Day fell on a Friday and we basked in the glory of a long weekend.
Not that Capetonians get much done on a Friday anyway. Don’t you dare try and schedule a meeting after 2PM, you’re better than that.
This year, September 24 falls on a Saturday which means no long weekend. It’s a painful blow but we must soldier on, and there are still plenty of opportunities to recognise and celebrate the cultural diversity of the country.
For those whose idea of a good time is tasty food and bubbles, Café Caprice has you covered.
Two-for-one burgers, half-price bubbly, and a spot on the Camps Bay strip where the people-watching is second to none.

Make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment. Burger-wise, there’s no harm in having a look at the menu before you make a call.
My suggestion is one person gets the American (a grass-fed beef patty basted in their homemade BBQ sauce, with cheddar & mozzarella, mustard mayo, ketchup, and a house pickle) and one gets the Royal (crispy bacon, cheddar, chilli oil, and onion rings).
Both come with skinny fries that apparently also double as moustaches.
That’s your stomach suitably lined, at which point the all-day half-price bubbles become the sole focus. It’s a tough life but somebody has to live it.
