Paul Allen has another superyacht up for grabs, except this one is really more of a mansion on water.
We were finally given a glimpse inside the Microsoft co-founder’s superyacht, ‘Octopus’, when it became available for exclusive chartering in Antarctica (for a staggering $2,2 million per week).
You may recall that Octopus was docked in Cape Town’s harbour back in 2018.
Since the tech titan’s passing that year at the age of 65, his sister, Jody Allen, as the executor and trustee of his estate, has been selling his assets off slowly but surely.
Another of Allen’s yachts, a 91-metre whopper known as Tatoosh (the world’s 60th largest superyacht, by the way), has just hit the market for $90,5 million (just under R1,6 billion):
According to Luxury Launches, Captain Richard Hielckert correctly stated that “if you don’t recognise Tatoosh from a distance, you probably don’t know yachting”.
Allen bought the water mansion in 2001 from telecommunications entrepreneur Craig McCaw and gave it a facelift suitable to his taste.
While McCaw envisioned his expensive toy as a family boat, Allen saw to it that Tatoosh would be a timeless boat with up-to-date technology.
German designer Claus Kusch got the project off the ground, and Terence Disdale and Achille Associates packed the ship with stunning interiors.
The owner’s apartment is sprawled across two storeys, with a private lobby upstairs giving access to an enormous observation lounge with its own pantry, a gym, and an office:
Mansion Global reported that it is currently listed for sale on Fraser Yachts:
Replete with over-the-top amenities, the boat features a swimming pool, a beach club, an elevator and a screening room, the listing said.
Accommodations include an owner’s full-beam stateroom—meaning it is as wide as the boat—and an adjoining apartment complex, plus 10 additional staterooms. It can accommodate up to 19 guests.
You can take a virtual 360-degree tour here.
Tatoosh can also house as many as 35 crew members to help create that seamless yachting experience.
The best of the boat is on top:
The highlight of Tatoosh is, without a doubt, her boat deck that holds a Germán Frers-designed daysailer called Julia and Chase, a gorgeous custom Hinckley Talaria tender, per Boat International.
Two helipads are found on the opulent boat; one is high up aft on the bridge deck with a bunkering station, and another is a touch-and-go helipad.
There’s also dedicated wine storage, a lovely little heated pool, a spa, a private cinema, a large beach club with a full dive room, and a rising floor on the main deck.
Tatoosh is available for viewings during the Monaco Yacht Show until October 1.
