Sometimes technology spoils us
A UK company has piloted a new urinal entertainment system that allows the pee-er to play a video game on a LCD screen positioned above the urinal, using their pee stream to control the game play. The system uses infrared sensors to track your stream and direct game play, and was piloted in a Cambridge, UK pub before being rolled out in some London establishments.
This is sure to be a hit with the poor South Africans and Eastern Europeans, who have to clean those London pub toilets, and will now face chronic splash zones from over-eager gaming the previous night, not to mention the dire situation this creates for mens room urinal etiquette!
Are two player versions available? Do we need to stand right next to each other? Are we now going to face crowded men’s rooms clogged with sweaty, shrieking gamers playing Mario Kart with their piss? Are there going to be addicted gamers forever lurking in the mens room asking us if we want to have a go? For the shy bladder crowd (guilty!) this presents a spiraling tower of neurosis!
Here’s some video on the subject:
Interestingly, the pubs where the games were piloted reported that not only were the urinals cleaner after patrons had sampled the electronic piss games, but there was less vandalism reported in the men’s rooms. Curiouser and curiouser.
Unknown is when or if South African establishments will furnish our men’s rooms with these glittering new facilities, but I’m hoping soon, since I can’t stand those talking urinal ads you get in cinema bathrooms. A quick game of Bunny Shooter during a particularly turgid romantic comedy/drinking binge would be just the thing.
