Apple’s next launch event is just around the corner.
Although we could wait patiently for September 7 to roll around to find out what the latest iPhone will look like, it’s hard to stifle that inner kid at Christmas.
Thankfully, the ever-churning rumour mill is here to give us a few clues into the iPhone 14’s possible design.
While Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously predicted a “complete redesign” for the iPhone 14 last year, we may also be looking at four big features expected in the 14 Pro and Pro Max.
The Verge summed up what to expect; an always-on display, a 48-megapixel rear camera with a larger sensor, an upgraded A16 processing chip, and a screen that gets rid of the notch in favour of smaller camera cutouts:
The biggest update to the non-Pro model is expected to be the introduction of a larger 6.7-inch display option. Previous rumors from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicate that the iPhone 14 (plus the Pro and Pro Max) may also have a better selfie camera that uses autofocus.
After introducing the notch on the iPhone X back in 2017, Apple could finally ditch it this year, per CNET:
The company will trade it out for a smaller hole-punch camera in the Pro models, according to Kuo. A hole-punch design refers to a display with only a small circular cutout for the front camera…
The notch is also where the components that make Face ID work are, so Apple may need to shrink its tech in order to make a notch-less iPhone a reality.
This is an alleged schematic of the iPhone 14’s display shared on YouTube by Jon Prosser:
Another design feature rumoured to be on Apple’s list is to remove the camera bump.
There is also talk of the iPhone 14 Pro being made with a titanium alloy body for the first time, instead of a stainless-steel one. Titanium is way tougher and more resistant to scratches, corrosion, and bending.
It appears likely the iPhone 14 series will eliminate the 5,4-inch Mini.
But we could be getting three new Apple Watch models and even a refreshed pair of AirPods Pro earbuds.
Apple’s small in-person launch event will be held at its Apple Park campus and will also be streamed online.
