Sylvester Stallone is going through a rather rocky time in his personal life.
He’s been missing his dog terribly, his wife filed for divorce after years of marriage, and his latest action movie has fallen short of a worthwhile watch.
The Guardian gave Amazon’s superhero saga Samaritan a sad two stars out of five, calling it an “immediately forgettable tale of a superhero forced out of retirement”.
Stallone should probably steer clear of reading that review for a while, as Jennifer Flavin, his wife of 25 years, has just filed a petition “for dissolution of marriage and other relief” from the Rocky actor, so he’s dealing with a lot.
The rumour mill was already spinning when photos revealed that Stallone had covered over the tattoo on his arm of Flavin’s face with the face of his beloved bullmastiff, Butkus.
Butkus appeared in Rocky and its sequel with Stallone, and reportedly died in 1981 from a heart attack, per PEOPLE:
“Mr. Stallone intended to refresh the tattoo image of his wife Jennifer; however, the results were unsatisfactory and, unfortunately, unfixable,” Stallone’s publicist Michelle Bega [said] after the outlet posted photos showing the actor’s tattoo coverup.
She continued, “Mr. Stallone loves his family. The Stallones are presently filming a reality show together which will debut on Paramount+.”
In May, the couple celebrated their 25th anniversary (they had been together for well over 30 years, having met in 1988 and married in 1997) and marked the milestone occasion with respective Instagram tributes to each other.
They’re rather tragic now, in light of everything.
Stallone ended off with “I only wish they could be another 25!”:

Flavin’s post has since been deleted, but she wrote a similarly sloppy caption along the lines of “our marriage keeps getting better every year! I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together! 🥰❤️❤️❤️”.
I guess not, though.
Stallone is probably feeling incredibly vulnerable right now, so reading that his role in Samaritan is basically banal and boring might not be great for his mental health:
Sylvester Stallone, whose screen persona had fully devolved into parody by that point with a series of increasingly risible action films, found new depths in the most textured iteration of his most known character, a bruised fighter weathered by the many battles of life. It scored him a much-deserved Oscar nomination and hinted at a late-stage career bloom, one that was less about fists and more about feelings.
But such hope was short-lived, the actor returning to roles that required him to shoot first and emote later, and so remains an untapped potential, an action hero who could benefit from transforming into a character actor.
Ja, hey, not the greatest thing to hear when your family is falling apart.
Watch the trailer for this “rather pointless addition to the industry’s most lazily relied upon genre”:
Stallone shares three daughters with Flavin: Scarlet, 20, Sistine, 24, and Sophia, 25.
They all seem to be on their mom’s side based on their comments on this Instagram post:
