If you’ve parked overnight on Beach Road and woken up to find you’re missing a mirror, this might be why.
Sea Point residents say police in the area have failed to take action against a man who has repeatedly vandalised cars.
On the Sea Point Community Facebook group, which is a private group, a video was posted showing a man causing damage to a series of parked cars on August 4 shortly before 4AM.
Unfortunately, we can’t embed the video but if you click on the image below you’ll be redirected to where you can watch it:
IOL has further details:
After the video was made public, numerous residents came forward claiming that the same man was responsible for vandalising their vehicles and that some opened cases but no action was taken by the police. Instead, the man was still on the streets causing more damage to other vehicles, residents said.
According to Dylan Castle, this has been a long-standing issue. He accuses the same man of breaking off his side mirror with a brick a few months back.
Wayne Dyason, the City’s Law Enforcement spokesperson, cited the Mental Health Act, saying that “SAPS is the responsible enforcement agency to deal with any mentally challenged persons who are suspected of criminal acts such as damage to property”.
