In early 2021, the lid was lifted on actor Armie Hammer and his years of alleged abuses of power.
Messages allegedly sent by Hammer detailed his fantasies of rape and cannibalism and the floodgates opened, with more women coming forward.
It wasn’t long before the spotlight was trained on the entire Hammer family and a number of skeletons were revealed.
For those biding their time until the inevitable docuseries came along, wait no longer. House of Hammer from Discovery+ is here, and it details five generations of alleged abuses of power by the Hammer men.
Over to Entertainment Weekly:
“Magnify Succession a million times and it was my family,” says the actor’s aunt Casey Hammer in the trailer for the series…
Hammer’s oil tycoon family has been the subject of immense controversy over the years, beginning with his great grandfather Armand Hammer…
House of Hammer interviews multiple women who claim they are survivors of the Death on the Nile star’s abuse, bringing to light his family’s dark secrets — ranging from accusations of violence and abuse to political manipulation and financial fraud.
The trailer starts off at a breakneck speed and does not slow down:
The three-part docuseries, which will premiere on September 2, reveals “truly disturbing details and sinister secrets that money and power couldn’t hide forever,” according to Jason Sarlanis, Discovery+’s President of Crime and Investigative Content, Linear and Streaming.
Following the allegations levelled against him, which Hammer has strongly denied, his career derailed. Below via Variety:
…he was spotted earlier this summer selling timeshares at a resort in the Cayman Islands where he has been residing close to his estranged wife and two young children for much of the pandemic. A source has told Variety that Hammer had completed a stay in rehab.
Last month, Vanity Fair, which previously published an exposé on the Hammer family, reported that Robert Downey Jr., who has been through recovery himself, has been supporting Hammer and paid for his six-months in rehab.
I suppose getting help is a good place to start.
The next step is potential legal action. In March 2021, the LAPD said he was the “main suspect” of an investigation into rape and assault allegations made by an unnamed individual. It’s unclear whether or not that investigation is still ongoing.
