Listen, nobody is saying that living in Plettenberg Bay is no longer in vogue.
But times have changed, you can work remotely and get yourself a proper internet connection off the beaten track, and the idea of added privacy is increasingly appealing. Perhaps that’s why I hear more and more people talking about The Crags, located just outside of Plett in the greenery of the Garden Route.
Walks through the forests and canopy tours, mountain trails that can be walked or cycled, and the ability to pop into town when needed to grab your supplies – sounds idyllic.
You can still get your foot in the property door for under R3 million but we prefer to dream outrageously big when we snoop around for property.
Enter Tamodi Lodge, listed for R49,9 million on Property24:
This is a well designed, carefully put together Country Lifestyle/Lodge Farm consisting of The Main Lodge House with 3 x Rooms, Kitchen, Living and Entertainment areas and 3 x Houses either side of Main House with a further 4 x Rooms, giving a total of 7 x very well appointed Rooms for the Lodge. Swimming Pool in main lodge with a plunge pool in the Honeymoon suite. There are 2 x owner private Dwellings. All laid out to make the best of the stunning country side and mountain views.
Outbuilding for 10 Horse Stable, Feeding Room, Tack Room, storage for Hay Bales and Equipment storage. Equestrian ring complete with jumps and obstacles.
I’m not sure the idea of running my retreat as a lodge does it for me. I reckon I’ll win the next R100 million PowerBall and unlike the last fool, I will actually put the money to good use.
Continuing to work in such circumstances should be considered criminal.
For a comprehensive look at what that 50 bar is buying you, we take a video tour:
Yes, all of that minus the other people.
The property is also load shedding prepared, with standby invertors with solar at the on-site residences and a 50KVa backup generator for the lodge.
Rainwater is harvested into water storage tanks and can also be pumped up from the Matjiesfontein River.
That’s me sorted. Goodbye, rat race.
