The latest figures are in, via a report from Stats SA, and South Africa has ticked over the 60 million population mark.
60,6 million people, although that is an estimate, rather than a figure set in stone. Still, it’s good as it gets until the next national census data is released. That is expected to happen next year.
Between 2021 and 2022, South Africa’s population saw a net increase of 640 070 people.
That number was further broken down to show the estimations among various racial groups.
Below via BusinessTech:
Black South African estimates increased by 430,480 people over the period, while the country’s coloured population grew by 44,951. The Asian/Indian population group added 9,774 people over the last year.
South Africa’s white population, however, declined by 23,191 people between 2021 and 2022, Stats SA said.
That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Last year’s Stats SA midyear report showed the white population decreased by 17 311 over the previous 12-month period.
According to the latest Henley Global Citizens Report (which includes forecasts by New World Wealth) from early June, South Africa’s US dollar millionaires are emigrating to the usual suspects (US and UK) as well as Malta, Portugal, Switzerland, Israel, Mauritius, New Zealand, and Canada.

Stats SA has also given a projection for the five-year period spanning 2021 to 2026:
…projections for the next five years (2021-2026) estimate that South Africa will see a net influx of 592,520 people, largely African. However, the white population is expected to see a net outflow of 43,516 people.
Stats SA said that its migration estimations come with a large caveat. Overall, the data shows there is a reduction in international migration, which is indicative of the Covid-19 travel restrictions and the subsequent impact on migratory patterns since March 2020.
There you have it.
60 million South Africans. One useless political party to rule them all.
