The original Woodstock festival has been celebrated for its free-spirited peace and love vibes, but then came its evil twin, Woodstock ’99.

And here we were thinking that the Fyre Festival madness was the worst music festival of all time…

Held on July 23-25, 1999, the Woodstock festival quickly disintegrated into absolute chaos and criminality, with violence, vandalism, and fires raging.

Including rare insider footage and eyewitness interviews, “the docuseries goes behind the scenes to reveal the egos and music that fueled three days of mayhem,” reads Netflix’s official statement for Clusterf**k: Woodstock ’99.

Executive producer Tom Pearson added that the documentary series “is an epic, universal story of nostalgia, hubris, greed and generational schism, told from the point of view of those on the front line”.

So-called aggressive music from the likes of Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Rage Against the Machine helped fuel a crowd already furious with organisers for their commercial exploitation, noted Ultimate Classic Rock & Culture:

Attendees reported inflated prices, lack of protection from high temperatures, insufficient toilet and water provisions, and underpaid staff abandoning their posts.

Officials later reported 44 arrests, 10,000 people needing medical attention and eight rapes during the three-day event.

One reporter noted that “there were just waves of hatred bouncing around the place. It was clear we had to get out of there.”

Per Revolver Mag, Korn’s Jonathan Davis is one of the talking heads in Clusterf**k: Woodstock ’99, noting how “when you see it with your own eyes, it’s 10 times more shocking”.

Clusterf**k: Woodstock ’99 will air on Netflix from August 3.
