At any given moment on America’s Got Talent, you’ll be able to witness the full spectrum of human emotion.
Tears? Tons. Laughter? Belly up. Shock? Hell yes.
The auditions alone come packed with all the feels, with the contestants’ stories and origin tales enough to trigger either or all of your fight, flight, or freeze responses.
Tuesday’s show didn’t disappoint, with a tearjerker from a 27-year-old singer, a terrifying rendition of Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ by a demon choir, and an amazing performance from an opera singer with a knack for uncanny impersonations, as reported by USA Today.
We’ll start you off with a heartwarming original song by the young woman who lost her mom to cancer, but never gave up on her ‘Daydream’, managing to get judge Heidi Klum to hit the Golden Buzzer:
Make sure your heart is sufficiently warmed before you move on to The Dremeka Choir delivering a performance straight from the depths of hell.
The group have been revealed as one of the only metal choirs in the world, able to turn ‘O Fortuna’ and Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ into something a little more… growly?
‘Toxic’ comes in around the two-minute mark:
Simon Cowell, typically a monstrously tough judge, adored it:
“It’s like demons in a choir singing the song from ‘The Omen,’ ” he said. “It was so fantastically creepy. I’m all for going over to the dark side eventually, so I get it.”
While Klum swiftly hit “X”, Howie Mandel saw it as an opportunity to reflect on his country: “I think you’re opening the eyes and ears of America on our stage,” he said.
Moving on to the opera singer who managed to transform her vocal chords into those of Ariana Grande, Stevie Nicks, Snow White, Siri, and more without a single um:
Another musical transformation came from singer Merissa Beddows, who showed off her opera prowess before jumping into some uncanny vocal impressions, all while singing “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”
Truly a feat:
If you wondering whether AGT just gets all the good stuff and/or lets everyone go through, they don’t.
Willem Roelants, a 25-year-old musician who popped balloons in sync with music, earned four negatives from the judges and an injury that left him bleeding from the top of his head after his performance.
What a time to be alive.
