This Youth Day, June 16, Cape Town’s biggest personalities invite future change-makers to a day out at the V&A Waterfront’s Battery Park. Filled with live performances, motivational discussions on “The Importance of Education” and fun activities, including the coolest cuts from Legends Barbers, make-up artist sessions and much more.
The V&A Waterfront’s Battery Park is a fun space that offers a safe environment for attendees to mingle and interact while enjoying the day’s activities — this is the perfect setting for online learners to take their friendships offline and hang out in real life. The Youth Day event will be open to the general public and online learners from across the province. The event will be hosted by UCT Online High School’s Head of Culture and seasoned radio host Kieno Kammies. Attendees can expect performances from local muso YoungstaCPT, legendary DJ Kyeezi, promising rapper Priddy Prince, hype-maker Uncle Vinny and Dee Koala.
Kicking off the day’s activities will be a motivational panel discussion on “The Importance of Education”. Panellists will include KFM’s Drive Show host Carl Wastie, YoungstaCPT, UCT Online High School’s Director and Principal Yandiswa Xhakaza, and Head of Student Wellbeing, Daniella Randall. Guests can look forward to hearing about the panels’ personal journey to success, and getting advice on how to navigate a new way of schooling in order to reach their full potential.
“Youth Day has always been synonymous with the aspirations of young people and the question around whether or not there is an enabling environment to allow for those aspirations and dreams to come true. We know that high-quality education is an important foundation for any future success and being able to have access to education paves the path for increased chances of winning in any chosen field that young people choose to pursue their dreams in. This June 16, it is my hope that the dreams of young people do not wither away into nothingness and that despite the difficult environment we find ourselves in, young people will push through and stop at nothing to make their dreams come true. We look forward to welcoming the public, and our online learners to our first-ever Youth Day event with some exciting things to look forward to”, says UCT Online High School’s Director & Principal, Yandisa Xhakaza.
And for the first time ever, Grade Africa — which has been featured extensively on Bubblegum Club Magazine and Highsnobiety — will be collabing with UCT Online High School for a first-of-its-kind merch drop. Attendees will be the first to shop the UCT Online High School x Grade Africa limited edition clothing line straight from the hanger at Grade Africa’s brand-new merch store located at the Canal District in Battery Park.
“I am really looking forward to this partnership with UCT Online High School – I think as we grow, we need to pass forward education to the next generation – education and learning come in so many different ways so let’s find new ways to get education to the kids. Let’s make it attainable and fun to be a learner – that’s why this partnership makes sense,” says Grade Africa Founder, Zaid Osman.
Join them for the dopest Youth Day celebration South Africa has ever experienced at the V&A Waterfront’s Battery Park on Thursday, June 16 between 12PM and 4PM, powered by UCT Online High School, in partnership with Grade Africa. All are welcome, save the date.
