Things you’ll only see in Australia – episode 57 722.
The rest of the world may marvel at the marsupials but to many Australians, kangaroos are basically pests.
Countless windscreens have been shattered after a road collision and they are also prone to the odd attack.
Just ask Heathcote, Victoria resident Cliff Des who battled and brawled a ‘roo for a solid six minutes outside of his home last Tuesday.
The last part of the altercation was captured on video and shows Des fleeing from the enraged animal before striking it with a stick and wrestling it to the ground.
Somebody was kind enough to put a rather apt track over the top of the footage:
Complex reports that Des heard his dogs barking and went outside to see what the commotion was about:
…only to find a six-foot-tall kangaroo “trying to rip my little dogs out of the yard.” Des initially tried to shoo away the unwanted guest, but the kangaroo responded by standing up on its back feet and chasing after him…
Des, a former boxing trainer, was taken to the ground by the kangaroo and the two were engaged in a wrestling match.
Look, we’re going full Ozzie here.
Please enjoy Des telling the story via a Today Show Australia interview:
I hope you saw the part around the 2:50 mark when Des joked that the kangaroo might have mistaken him “for one of his girls”.
Solid pivot into the science behind the toxicity of phalaris grass.
All’s well that ends well or as they say Down Under, “no worries, mate, she’ll be right”.
