I am not really one to call action flicks fun, but I’ll admit that Netflix’s upcoming The Man from Toronto looks like a blast.
That has a lot to do with Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson’s comedic chemistry, and a little to do with how wild the plot is.
Harrelson’s first starring role since his appearance in 2022 Palme d’Or winner Triangle of Sadness, the latest dark comedy by Ruben Östlund, shows he’s out there stirring things up.
The hitman killer comedy begins when Hart steps into the wrong Airbnb and right into a torture chamber where he has to assume the role of the assassin, Harrelson.
Per IndieWire, while Hart is trying to get out of his mistaken identity, the CIA wants him to stay undercover to help them find the real Man from Toronto:
The buddy comedy continues as Harrelson trains Hart to be him, and Hart has to decide whether or not to turn the Man from Toronto in to the feds.
Check out some of the fun in the trailer:
Director Patrick Hughes (The Hitman’s Bodyguard ) is the driving force of this action parody film:
“I’m a huge fan of buddy comedies, and I love how, at the end of the day, it’s always like a love story between two people that are polar opposites,” Hughes told Entertainment Weekly.
“Kevin Hart’s character is like a wet noodle who needs to find strength to stand up in the world because it’s been walking all over him. On the flip side of that coin, the ‘Man from Toronto’ is someone that needs to get in touch with his emotions a little more instead of just killing everybody. Watching them learn from each other is really fun.”
The real fun will begin when The Man from Toronto starts streaming on Netflix on June 24.
