Looking up while driving on the N2 towards Somerset West, you’ll often see a plane taking to the sky or heading for the nearby airport, and wonder what would happen if it suddenly came whirling towards you.
Well, motorists driving on the R44 between Stellenbosch and Strand encountered that very situation yesterday.
A couple of drivers had to move out of the way of a small plane that was suddenly forced to treat the highway as an emergency landing strip.
The plane came barrelling down, gliding along the middle of the road before eventually causing some damage.
The two men inside the plane were the only people affected, with one seriously hurt and the other suffering minor injuries, according to News24.
They were both rushed to the Mediclinic in Stellies as soon as the paramedics arrived.
The nose of the plane seemed to have taken the most heat:

The details of the crash, like the whys and the hows, are unknown and under investigation.
