Amidst the bundle of unclaimed lottery tickets at the Ithuba offices, was a stupendous R126 million PowerBall ticket from May 20, 2022, waiting to be claimed.
Finally, the Florida, Johannesburg resident figured out this week that she was a winner and stepped up, claiming the life-changing amount.
TimesLIVE reported that this Ithuba multimillionaire lottery jackpot winner believes that her spirit of “gratitude and giving” is what sealed the deal.
Although, she still cannot quite wrap her head around her good fortune:
“I am yet to digest the news, I need time to re-evaluate the situation and apply my mind,” she said.
She said she was still in complete disbelief. “When I found out that I had won, I was in complete disbelief, and I felt elated. Reality is only sinking in now that I am here at the Ithuba offices,” she said.
She had the ticket stashed in her wallet and only thought to check after her running friend mentioned that someone in the area had won the R126 million.
While she tries to get a hold of this new reality, she says she and her husband will remain humble and low-key:
“We plan to keep a very low profile, with our feet on the ground. My partner and I are very conservative people, we are not splashy big spenders, so there will be no Ferraris,” she said.
“We have been looking for property for quite some time, so this will now help us to fast track the process, as our current living situation is not ideal.”
She looks forward to having a home with a garden and sufficient space where they can entertain.
She also said that once the dust settles, they want to travel the world.
Some of the winnings will also go towards supporting an NGO of her choice, and whatever else she manages to bag from future lottery wins will also be donated to charity.
That’s one smart lottery winner if ever I saw one.
Her identity has not been revealed to protect her safety and security.
