Maye Musk is not just the mother of the world’s wealthiest billionaire.
At 74, she is also a model, author, dietician, and activist who enjoys shattering perceptions and challenging the conversation around ageing.
She graced the cover of the 2022 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine, joining other major faces of the issue, such as Kim Kardashian, singer Ciara, and rising model Yumi Nu.
Her first reaction to the cover girl moment was, “I could never dream up something like that because why would anyone have a 74-year-old on their cover, especially in a swimsuit?”
She went from thinking of herself as a “crazy lady” for being in a cozzie on the cover to being excited to “let people know that women in their 70s are gorgeous,” reported CNN:
She has leaned into encouraging women of all ages to walk around in swimwear without a care in the world, per PEOPLE:
“I do think it’s going to make women feel more comfortable in their seventies when they swim, as well as women in their twenties and thirties.”
…”When women go to the beach, we’re kind of shy about our bodies, but men will walk around, looking terrible, and they don’t care,” she continued. “I think we have to not care that much!”
Elon’s sibling, Tosca Musk, explained how “unstoppable” their mother is in an essay that followed the cover shoot:
“In her years on this planet she’s earned two master’s degrees in nutrition science, won awards in the dietetics field, has been in countless fashion shows and editorials, and she’s even appeared in a Beyoncé video,” she wrote.
“She is an uncontainable force, and she’s the most fearless woman I’ve ever known.”
Maye certainly enjoys having fun, relishing in the spotlight at the 2022 Met Gala with her Tesla and SpaceX CEO son. We couldn’t help but covered his strange faces and her Saffa accent.
The new SI issue will be out on stands from tomorrow.
