There’s been yet another attack on stage, validating those who questioned how safe it is to perform these days after Will Smith so brazenly slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars.
You remember that incident. Will Smith has since been banned from the awards ceremony for 10 years.
This time, comedian Dave Chappelle was the victim, tackled on stage as he was ending off his performance at the Netflix Is A Joke festival at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night, reported The Guardian.
The attacker came zooming in from left-field and tackled Chappelle to the ground, arms and legs flailing, before stage guards rushed to the scene.
Chappelle stood up, shook himself off, and cracked a few questionable jokes. He said the attacker “was a trans man”, a reference to his previous jokes during a Netflix special, which caused a major uproar in the trans community.
Then Chris Rock appeared and asked “was that Will Smith?” – which, as you can imagine, brought the house down.

Chris Rock, everybody:
“Was that Will Smith?”: Moments after Dave Chappelle was attacked onstage during a performance in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Chris Rock joined Chappelle at the mic for a joke of his own. Per The Independent, Isaiah Lee, the 23-year-old alleged attacker, was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
Apparently, there was also a weapon involved:
An police spokesperson said: “A famous comedian was performing at the Hollywood Bowl and when he finished his act, a male jumped on to the stage and tackled the celebrity. The suspect produced a replica handgun [“that can eject a knife blade” when discharged correctly] and pointed the item at the victim. He was taken into custody and was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.”
But Lee didn’t get a chance to use it as several security guards punched and kicked him, supposedly leaving him looking a little mangled afterwards:

Chappelle clearly had the last laugh.
