Boeing planes are in the news for the wrong reasons of late.

There was that alarming moment recorded between an Air France Boeing 777 pilot and air traffic control when the plane was having difficulty landing last week in France.

Across the sea, in Costa Rica, another Boeing plane made a crash landing only to be split into two after sliding off the runway.

The DHL cargo jet lost its tail and broke a wing after landing at Juan Santamaria International Airport on Thursday morning.

Sky News reported that the pilot detected a failure in the hydraulic system of the Boeing 757-200, which is when he turned the flight around.

Good thing it wasn’t in the air when the plane cracked in half:

Talk about a banana split.

The only crew on board were the pilot and co-pilot, who managed to walk away unscathed. One of them had a medical check as a precaution.

The plane also had a sort of medical check, per the director of the Costa Rica Fire Department, Hector Chaves:

“Units mobilised to remove the pilot and co-pilot.

“Then they applied foam to prevent a spill and now they are working on an earthen dike to avoid any fuel from reaching the drainage system.”

8 500 passengers and 57 commercial and cargo flights were affected by the shutting down of the airport as authorities checked in.

Of course, an investigation is underway to figure out what happened.
