Faking your own death is a bit like leaving social media.
You don’t need to tell everyone you’re doing it. Just go quietly and you’ll probably have a better chance of succeeding.
When it comes to escaping the law, faking your own death is often seen as a way out.
After all, law enforcement will stop looking if they think you’re six foot under.
In reality, it’s harder to pull off successfully than some Hollywood movies and series would have you think.
VICE takes a closer look:
From a local politician escaping charges of sexual assault to a couple avoiding fraud charges, criminals around the world are attempting to fake their own deaths and escape the woes of their current existence.
In The Business of Crime, VICE World News looks at different parts of the criminal economy, separating fact from myth. In this episode, we find out how criminals are trying to fake their own death.
The key here is that these people have all been caught in their web of lies.
Perhaps this is a lesson in how not to fake your own death, then.
