If you kept an eye on the alienesque singer via social media, you would have noticed that Grimes was definitely not pregnant at any point in 2021.
Yet, she now shares a second child with her on-and-off-again partner Elon Musk.
The discovery was made by chance, when a Vanity Fair reporter was in Grimes’ home interviewing her about music and Mars, mostly.
Then, a baby was heard wailing from upstairs, creating some awkwardness for Grimes, who eventually revealed that yes, she and Elon had a new baby daughter, reported Page Six:
“She’s a little colicky too,” Grimes said after the reporter asked what was going on, as the musician noted her first child, X Æ A-XII, was with his father.
“I don’t know. I don’t know what I was thinking,” she told the magazine of trying to conceal the baby.
What comes after X? Y does, which is the nickname of their daughter. Her full name is Exa Dark Sideræl, and she was birthed via a surrogate – the reason nobody noticed that there was a new addition to the family.
Almost a little disappointed that Y didn’t come about via an alien invasion or post-human immaculate conception.
The couple’s first child, son X Æ A-XII, usually goes by just X.
When Grimes was first asked if she had another child in her life, she initially responded, “I’m not at liberty to speak on these things,” adding that when it comes to family stuff, kids need to stay out of the spotlight.
But she couldn’t hide Y forever, per the original Vanity Fair article:
She’s rattled, and I’m mortified by even accidentally making a woman—a new mother, no less—feel exposed and vulnerable. I suggest we pause for a moment to discuss the surreal professional ethics at play, which are that I can’t pretend I don’t know she’s got a secret baby with the world’s wealthiest man hiding upstairs.
Especially when she invited me here. It’s a calming period that breaks with a sitcom punch line: full-blown infant screams upstairs, followed by the voice of a woman pleading SHH. Now we both start laughing.
Did she really think I wasn’t going to hear a baby?
Once the news was out, Grimes spoke more freely, mentioning that the sort of couple wants at least three or four children together.
She also said the use of a surrogate was necessary after fears of complications from her first birth, reported Elle:
She had trouble walking during the last month: “He was pressing on my nerves, so I kept collapsing,” she said.
“I took a few steps and collapsed. It was kind of scary, because you don’t want to fall a lot when you’re eight months pregnant. So I would just crawl to the bathroom and crawl back or whatever.”
She added she thought she was dying at one point while expecting him: “Like, I hemorrhaged. It was scary.”
Yikes.
Y definitely leaves us with more questions than answers, like are the couple officially back together?
Their new baby girl was born in December 2021, just a few months after Grimes and the tech mogul had broken up after three years together.
“There’s no real word for it,” Grimes told the outlet of their relationship. “I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time…. We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it.”
She added that they’re happy. “This is the best it’s ever been…. We just need to be free.”
However, soon after the interview was released, Grimes announced that they were off again:
Me and E have broken up *again* since the writing of this article haha, but he’s my best friend and the love of my life, and my life and art are forever dedicated to The Mission now, I think Devin wrote that part of the story rly well. Sique – peace out

It might have had something to do with Elon wanting to enjoy the single life.
I mean, he has dated and married a fair bit in his 50 years of life, between author Justine Wilson, Westworld actress Talulah Riley, Amber Heard, and more recently actress Natasha Bassett.
Anyway, congrats to Musk and Grimes for their new darling Y. It looks like Mars is on its way to becoming fully occupied.
