This weekend, I got my hands on a projector.
Let me tell you one thing – compare the cost of a decent telly, and what half of that can buy you projector-wise, and you may also want to join the revolution.
All you need is a blank wall at home, an HDMI connection, a laptop, and you have your own home cinema.
Only once was I treated to the ignominy of that horrid buffering wheel splashed across my wall, although I accidentally yanked the router plug out of the wall so that one’s on me.
Down with terrible internet connections. Down!
That’s all a really long-winded way of arriving at the results of the latest MyBroadband Insights broadband report, which ranks South Africa’s top internet service providers (ISPs):
The report is based on 241,572 speed tests and customer satisfaction ratings collected through MyBroadband’s speed test platform between 1 January and 28 February 2022.
After a user conducts a speed test, they are asked to rate their ISP based on their satisfaction with the service.
These ratings are processed to produce a customer satisfaction rating for each ISP, where higher scores indicate a better customer experience.
MyBroadband has ranked 16 South African ISPs, as well as 12 smaller local ISPs.
We’ve just screenshot the top five:
See the full table here.
Remarkably, Telkom is only the third-worst ISP, with Rain and Cell C bringing up the rear.
Turning our attention to the top of the pile, it’s a pat on the back for both Cool Ideas and RSAWEB.
The latter has a number of home fibre sales on the go, including uncapped 35Mbps starting from just R385 a month. I don’t know why you would require 1000Mbps at home, but you can score that insane speed for R995 a month.
You will not see the spinning wheel of death, AKA the buffering wheel, with that bad boy.
It all depends on what fibre is available in your area. Pop in here, search your area, and the list of available packages will be shown.
Once you’re sorted there – projectors, my friends. Join the revolution.
