Shall we take a break from war?
Our customary Friday trailer perusal is here to offer some respite as we lean into the weekend.
First up, the one and only Andy Warhol.
The man was a trailblazer in his time which makes it fitting that the latest artificial intelligence technology has been used to bring his voice back to life.
Below from IndieWire:
Directed by Andrew Rossi (“Page One: A Year Inside the New York Times” and “The First Monday in May”), the six-part documentary series debuts March 9…
While Warhol was seemingly scrupulous about keeping his private life private — often flippantly telling journalists he was “asexual” — there’s plenty beneath the surface of his groundbreaking 20th-century art to suggest otherwise. That’s one of the achievements of “The Andy Warhol Diaries,” which melds talking-head testimonies from those who knew him (Julian Schnabel, John Waters, Fab Five Freddy, Jerry Hall, Debbie Harry, and many, many more) with impressionistic montages of his work and archival snippets from his New York scene at the Factory.
Those more interested in the salacious aspects of his life will be pleased to know there’s sex, drugs, and rock and roll aplenty:
March 9, six parts, in case you missed that.
We promised an escape from all things Russia and Ukraine but you’ll have to forgive me for featuring F@ck This Job.
Here’s The Reviews Hub:
Vera Krichevskaya’s documentary, describes the consequences of Russia’s increasingly intolerant attitude towards dissent for [an independent news TV] station based in Russia, the staff and the country as a whole…
F@ck This Job is a well-balanced documentary. The closest it comes to expressing a political opinion is a medley of Vladimir Putin stating he will not be making any constitutional reforms before doing just that.
Talk about timing – this doccie hit UK cinemas yesterday (February 24):
It scored a four-star review from The Guardian which is a good sign.
Finally, let’s go full mindless blockbuster and Jurassic World Dominion.
Dinosaurs, lots of them, and Chris Pratt – that’s mindless, combined with the fact that the trailer first aired during the Super Bowl.
This from Den of Geek:
Heralded as the “epic conclusion of the Jurassic era,” the trailer nonetheless appears to tease a whole new era for this franchise that’s ready to begin as soon as we meet everyone’s favorite velociraptor: Blue.
The carnivorous dinosaur won hearts and minds for a species of predators that was the essential villain in the 1993 classic movie which started it all…
In this movie, we will see the human world on the teetering edge for dominance alongside their revived ancient companions. But if Blue’s child is any indication that they can breed even within their limited means…. Well the “Jurassic era” might be over, but a whole new future for the franchise where human civilization crumbles and a post-apocalyptic dinosaur hellscape rises could be possible.
Maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t be opposed to living in a post-apocalyptic dinosaur hellscape.
We may be headed that way soon enough. I just hope there’s good WiFi.
Oh yes, the trailer:
You’re my boy, blue.
June 10 and all shall be revealed.
Enjoy your weekend and try to keep the doomscrolling to a minimum.
