I stopped watching the Saw movies after the needle pit scene in Saw 2.
A not so fun fact – they had to stop filming because someone accidentally knocked a box full of actual syringes into the pit.
Back in the real world, there’s no shortage of horrors to focus on but a soundproofed torture chamber established by a violent drug gang in the Netherlands is worthy of closer inspection.
At the trial of 11 suspects this week, Dutch public prosecutor Koos Plooij told a court of the “repulsive” and “hell-like” chamber they planned to use on rival gang members.
The Telegraph reports:
Police made the discovery two years ago in Wouwse Plantage, south of Rotterdam, after French officers cracked encrypted phones being used by criminals. Police said the seven shipping containers, converted into cells and torture chambers, were found before they were used.
Six of the containers, fitted with handcuffs and legcuffs, were allegedly to be used as holding cells. While the seventh was fitted with a dentist’s chair and apparent torture weapons, such as scalpels, claw hammers, pliers, pruning shears and gas burners.
Not content with just that chair (sorry for those with a dental phobia), there were freezers large enough to hold multiple bodies and everything needed to carry out waterboarding.
Law enforcement also found stolen police uniforms, bulletproof vests, and blue flashing lights.
Having cracked the encrypted messages, police uncovered multiple messages between gang members talking about torturing rivals, including the infamous kneecapping technique.
Prosecutors are aiming to get alleged gang leader ‘Roger P’ locked up for 12 years. On a separate conviction, he faces a prison sentence of 17 years and nine months.
