Another year, another Acadamy Awards.
Let’s take a look at the nominations, then
Netflix’s Power Of The Dog landed a very solid 12 nominations, taking the lead in the 94th annual Academy Awards’ list of nominees.
Those nominees include best picture, best director for Jane Campion, and acting nominations for Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as for the supporting roles played by Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Following with 10 nominations for best picture (surprisingly not including best director or actors) is Dune.
Denis Villeneuve took quite a risk bringing Frank Herbert’s Dune to the big screen, turning what many believed to be an unadaptable novel into a cinematic masterpiece, so it is odd that the film was nominated without the guy who made it happen.
Then there is West Side Story and Belfast, which each earned seven nominations, while King Richard was nominated in six categories.
Major snubs include Lady Gaga for best actress in House Of Gucci, which as Entertainment Weekly said, no amount of praying to father, son, and House of Gucci could manifest for the pop star.
In my not professional opinion that film was indeed long, drawn-out, and lacking, but Gaga was intriguing enough to hold the whole thing together. Next time then, Gaga.
Jared Leto was also snubbed for best supporting actor in that film, although, granted, his performance was a bit more divisive.
Here’s the list of nominations in major categories for this year’s Oscars, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter:

BEST DIRECTOR
BEST ACTRESS
