James Blunt gets dissed a fair bit.

His whole Twitter character is based on this banter, with him often making up quick-witted quips when an anti-fan belittles him.

He knows his music is not the most celebrated, but at least he knows how to wisecrack.

His self-deprecating humour is often relatable enough to allow folks to feel compassion towards him, like “Aww, James, your music sucks, but we know you’re a great guy.”

However, no matter how much he gets in on the joke that is himself, he did not deserve this horrendously awkward interview that took place on BBC Breakfast recently.

The ‘You’re Beautiful’ singer sat in on the interview on Friday where presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty spoke to him about a couple of things, including his Greatest Hits album coming out soon.

The interview has been called “silly”, “embarrassing”, “dreadful”, and “appalling” with some folks even going so far as to say that it was “possibly the worst [interview] I’ve ever heard”.

The Independent reported:

“Even James Blunt thought so,” the viewer added, with another stating: “That was a really surreal interview with James Blunt on #BBCBreakfast – they didn’t know what to say to him, he didn’t know how to respond. Weird.”

Another viewer called it “very possibly the worst interview I’ve ever heard”, adding; “Well done James for putting up with their inane questioning with such good grace.”

Shame.

The awkwardness began when Stayt brought up how much younger Blunt is looking.

After Blunt graciously spoke about having plastic surgery, Stayt took the joke too far, which made Blunt visibly squirm, replying, “I don’t know where to go from here.”

Then Munchetty goes on for a weird amount of time about the bunk bed in the tour bus that Blunt sometimes frequents, seemingly running out of things to say and just talking absolute nonsense.
