There were two moments in which this pilot could have died on Sunday, but somehow, he narrowly escaped both.
The man had crash-landed his Cessna plane onto railway tracks mere seconds before a high-speed train came hurtling towards it.
Miraculously, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s station nearby were on the scene and able to quickly drag the unnamed pilot out of his plane just before the train whacked it.
The accident was caught on camera from two angles, one showing the bloody pilot being saved, and another showing the debris flying from the plane as it gets hit by the train.
Have a look:
Here’s Luis Jimenez, a 21-year-old music composer who filmed the second part of the video, via Sky News:
“The plane had a failed take-off and landed on the train tracks at a popular intersection,” said Jimenez.
“Just seconds before impact police officers saved the pilot, and a piece of debris almost hit me.”
The LAPD’s Valley Bureau mentioned that the plane had lost power and crashed into the tracks, with the pilot as the sole passenger:
The department applauded its officers, saying in the tweet they had “displayed heroism and quick action by saving the life of a pilot who made an emergency landing on the railroad tracks”.
The pilot was the only injured person involved in this insane plane and train crash and was treated for just cuts and bruises.
