You’re looking at an image of a security officer squashed into the back of his own patrol car as two gun-wielding assailants hijack the vehicle.
As recent stats show we’re staring down the barrel of increased hijackings across the country.
But the trend becomes even more worrisome when you hear news of security officers being hijacked in broad daylight.
Two security officers were sitting in a company patrol vehicle in Groblersdal, Polokwane when a pair of gunmen appeared out of nowhere.
The vehicle’s dashboard camera captured the hijacking unfold, from the moment the gunmen appeared:
According to News24, Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said that the perpetrators had robbed the officers of two firearms and had stolen the patrol car.
Luckily, the security guard was able to get out and ring the alarm. Nobody has said what exactly happened to the other security guard.
After this, the patrol car was left abandoned on the side of the road a few kilometres from the original spot.
The crime took place last month, but police are appealing to anyone who might recognise the men to come forward and assist the investigation.
The men’s faces are completely visible in the dashcam footage, so hopefully, someone has something on them.
