After gunmen robbed a jewellery store in a Brakpan mall, a shootout proceeded between them, the mall’s security guards, and some police officers.

Two of the suspected robbers were shot dead on the scene, confirmed Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello.

The robbery took place on Sunday at an American Swiss store located in the Carnival Mall in Brakpan, Gauteng.

Sello suspects that seven robbers were involved in the crime:

It is reported that the suspects started shooting on their way out and police and security officers retaliated, killing two of the suspects and injuring one, while the others managed to flee.

News24 posted CCTV footage of the moment the men robbed the store, right before the fatal shootout.

Watch for a man in black running in with a gun pointed at the person behind the counter while shoppers look at the jewellery on display.

Another man with a blue bag then follows this gunman, while the man in a white shirt from the back of the store takes out a pair of gloves and forces an unfortunate shopper to the counter.

It looks like the other shoppers managed to get away in time:

They loaded their bags and lined their pockets, and then just as they were about to flee, the shootout occurred.

A case of business robbery has been opened for investigation.
