Notice Something Different About Spotify? It’s Because Of Adele

Adele’s new album, '30', is dominating music charts. She's so powerful she can even influence how Spotify operates.

Adele’s new album, 30, has pretty much blown up the current music scene.

One of the songs on the album, ‘Easy on Me’, with all the emotional honesty that we love Adele for, has beaten K-pop group BTS for the Spotify record for the most global listens in a single day.

But that is not all Adele has done to keep the music streaming service in top-notch shape.

She has also helped change a feature to make music listening more meaningful, and as the artist intended.

Per The Verge, Adele’s request was met when Spotify decided not to shuffle albums by default anymore, but rather play them in order, with the option to shuffle:

Previously, when viewing an album on Spotify, you’d see a small shuffle icon within the larger “Play” button. This indicated that Spotify would begin playing the album’s songs in a random order, which isn’t always what users would expect (or want) it to do.

Now, when you hit “Play” in Album View, songs will play in order — that is, as long as you have a Premium subscription. You can still enable shuffle mode by toggling on the “Shuffle” icon when viewing an individual track.

Adele thanked the platform for listening and making the change:

Spotify then replied saying “Anything for you” confirming that they had made the change as a favour.

I get it. I would also do anything for the pure talent, especially after her recent chat with Oprah, where she was so open and vulnerable about various difficult topics.

Speaking of which, you can now watch Adele’s entire ‘One Night Only’ performance and Oprah interview:
