There’s good news for all the queue-adverse people out there. AKA, everyone, ever.
Motorists all over South Africa can now register, renew, and pay for their license discs through the National Traffic Information System (NaTIS) online platform.
The new payment gateway enabled by First National Bank (FNB) was launched by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
Say “goodbye and goeie dag” to long lines at your local traffic department because this service will enable motorists to go online to pay for fines and sort out any penalties for late renewal, the RTMC said on Monday (11 October), via BusinessTech.
Out of the 2,4 million motorists renewing their license discs annually in the country, 6 700 motorists have already used the NaTIS online crash reporting platform since its introduction in 2019.
Here’s FNB public sector CEO, Sipho Silinda:
“We are delighted to partner with the RTMC to make this service possible. COVID-19 has accelerated growth in the digital and eCommerce sectors, with more consumers preferring to shop and access essential services online,” said Silinda.
“By adding a digital payment option for motorists, RTMC aims to reduce cash-handling risks for all persons involved, including that of South Africans. This will assist in reducing operational costs and pass these savings to South Africans by introducing more innovative services to motorists while maintaining the levels of service expected of them.”
This is how to renew and pay for your car license disc online:
The South African Post Office (SAPO) is also working on a new mobile application to make it easier for motorists to renew and pay for car licenses via mobile phones:
“The renewal and payment will be done using the app, and the motorist can then choose to collect the disc from any convenient post office or have it delivered to an address of their choice. The motor vehicle licence renewal service is currently available in all provinces except the Western Cape, where it will be introduced soon,” the post office said.
SAPO hopes to have this service up and running by the end of the month.
